We can offer you affordable specialist Epilepsy holiday Insurance

If you have epilepsy and are looking to book a holiday, you may be struggling to find travel insurance. Some Insurers may decline to cover your medical condition so you will need to plan in advance by ensuring you have a specialist insurance policy that covers all of your medical conditions.

Free Spirit was the first scheme dedicated to those being declined cover elsewhere and over the last 15 years, we have helped thousands of people obtain the specialist insurance they need.

Epilepsy can be unpredictable and it is really important to make sure that you have the right insurance policy in place, just in case you need it. The two main reasons for taking out specialist travel insurance for epilepsy is to cover you for cancellation prior to your holiday and for cover while you are away for emergency medical expenses.

Why Epilepsy holiday Insurance is the right choice!

Should the unexpected happen and you have a seizure while on holiday, Free Spirit can provide cover for your emergency medical costs which could include medical repatriation if medically necessary. You’ll have access to a 24/7 medical emergency helpline and no matter where in the world you are, we will be on hand to help you.

Free Spirit travel insurance for epilepsy can cover people who have both types of seizures:

Partial seizures

There are two types of partial seizure:

  • Simple partial seizure – where you remain fully conscious throughout
  • Complex partial seizure – where you lose your sense of awareness and can’t remember what happened after the seizure has passed

Generalised seizures

There are various types including:

  • Absence seizures sometimes called petit mal, mainly affect children. They cause the child to lose awareness of their surroundings and they will seem to stare vacantly into space, although some children will flutter their eyes or smack their lips. The child will have no memory of the seizure.
  • Atonic seizures cause all your muscles to suddenly relax, so there is a chance you could fall to the ground and incur a head injury.
  • Tonic-clonic seizure – a tonic-clonic seizure is also known as grand mal and has two stages. Firstly your body will become stiff and then your arms and legs will begin jerking. Most people lose consciousness and some will wet themselves. These seizures normally last between one and three minutes, but they can last longer and if more than 5 minutes are classed as a medical emergency.
