Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness

This year’s National Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week will take place from 19 – 25 June 2017. It’s an important week for raising awareness and understanding what is frequently considered to be an invisible illness.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease which causes inflammation across multiple joints, resulting in severe pain for sufferers. It’s hard to detect as there is no outward sign of the disease, but for many people, it is a life-altering condition.

Here at Free Spirit, we don’t believe that having Rheumatoid Arthritis should limit your enjoyment of life. As such we are proud to offer people with Rheumatoid Arthritis specialist travel insurance so that they can travel on holiday safe in the knowledge that medical assistance is available if they need it.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is the second most common form of arthritis in the UK, affecting approximately 400,000 people. The inflammation that the condition causes in the joints leads to pain due to the stretching of muscles and nerve endings being irritated. The condition is typified by flare-ups, during which a sufferer will have bouts of inflammation and pain followed by times of relief. Each time the joint does inflame it causes more and more damage.

The unpredictability of the condition can make it hard for sufferers to be able to plan for things such as holidays or travel. While you might be well when you book your break, you could have a flare-up just before you go or even while you are away. That’s why having travel insurance in place is so important.

Rheumatoid Arthritis travel insurance

People with Rheumatoid Arthritis are likely to find that standard travel insurance policies won’t cover them. At Free Spirit, we specialise in providing travel insurance for people who can’t get cover elsewhere, making a decision based on a medical assessment to ensure you get the cover that’s right for you.

You can get your quote online or call us today to speak to one of our friendly team of experts. To determine what insurance is right for you, they’ll ask you a short series of questions just to understand more about your Rheumatoid Arthritis. The typical questions we ask include:

  • How long have you had Rheumatoid Arthritis?
  • Have you had any joints replaced or resurfaced?
  • Do you currently use any mobility aids because of your Rheumatoid Arthritis?
  • Have you ever needed treatment for any neck problems?
  • Have you ever needed treatment for any back problems?
  • How many unplanned hospital admissions have you had for Rheumatoid Arthritis in the last year?

If you need any help while you are getting your quote, or before you do so, then take a look at our frequently asked questions page. Alternatively, call us on 02392 419 080.

Why you need Rheumatoid Arthritis travel insurance

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an unpredictable condition. Having holiday insurance in place from the moment you book means that some of the costs you have paid may be covered should you need to cancel your holiday because you are too poorly to travel. We can also cover your companions so that they don’t lose out if the whole party can no longer travel.

What’s more, you’ll also be covered should you require any emergency medical assistance while you are away. When travelling abroad medical expenses can be extremely expensive. Travel insurance gives you peace of mind that should you need any treatment, you will be covered.
