Countries on the Quarantine list

The UK Quarantine List. It’s bemusing. So, our guides are just what you need. We have created an at-a-glance table and guide to share the European destinations that are safe and convenient to visit.

September 2021 – While the information below was accurate and well received at the time, lots has changed. See our recent blog to where we can travel while restrictions are in place. It has all the latest advice including if a destination is on the red list, if it is accepting British travellers, and what entry requirements are currently in place. Travelling against FCDO advice – If you do decide to travel when the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against your chosen destination, we have an arrangement that can provide cover.

Travel Corridors and Quarantine Lists

Back in July, travel was permitted once more after months of lockdown. We were given hope that we would be able to escape on holiday to our favourite getaways and cherished overseas destinations.

‘Travel corridors’ are really just a catchy way of describing when it is safe to travel to a destination without the need to quarantine on return. The published list of destinations from the government provides us with some exceptions to the advice not to travel – anywhere – unless deemed essential.

In short, when travelling from these countries to the UK the need to self-isolate on arrival is greatly reduced. If, on the other hand, a travel corridor is not in place then the country is on ‘the quarantine list’. Anyone arriving in the UK from that location must self-isolate for a set period (as of the 14th December, this is 10 days).

When is the Quarantine List Reviewed?

Usually, an announcement is made around midweek every week. At this point, each country to be added – and removed – will be advised.

Where Next on the Quarantine List?

Despite most European destinations appearing on the initial list of travel destinations in Europe, many were then removed shortly thereafter. At the current time, no travel corridors are open for the foreseeable future.

How do I keep up?!

With some travel corridors opening, and some slamming shut, on a regular basis, we have created something to help. There follows a list of European destinations and if they currently sit on the UK quarantine list. A simple tick indicates that it has a travel corridor in place to the UK. A cross means that it is on the quarantine list. If there are any other notes, they can be found immediately underneath the table.

We hope that, if you wish to travel at the current time, this guide will help. When you do, remember your Free Spirit policy, including Coronavirus cover.
