High Cholesterol Travel Insurance
We pride ourselves on providing our customers with an excellent comprehensive travel insurance cover, especially for people with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Having a medical condition shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a holiday abroad. However, you will need to ensure you plan in advance when it comes to organising your insurance.
Travelling companions can be covered on your Free Spirit policy, whether they have a pre-existing medical condition or not. By including your friends and family on your policy, will ensure the whole party is covered, if you had to cancel your holiday due to your high cholesterol. This may not be the case with other insurers.
Can you still cover me for travelling if I have more than one medical condition?
No problem! We appreciate that if you have high cholesterol you may also have high blood pressure or hypertension or you may have previously had a stroke or a heart attack. We will ask you about all of your pre-existing medical conditions to ensure none are missed and so that full cover is in place.
Cholesterol is a fatty substance known as a lipid and is vital for the normal functioning of the body. It is mainly made by the liver but can also be found in some foods we eat.
There are two types of cholesterol
- Bad cholesterol – low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
- Good cholesterol – high-density lipoprotein (HDL)
Is it easy to get a quote?
Obtaining a quote and getting cover for your high cholesterol to enable you to travel couldn’t be easier! We can provide two options for you. Free Spirit has a user-friendly online medical screening and we will ask you some questions about your medical conditions, here are some examples:
- Has a blood test ever at any time shown your cholesterol level to be raised?
- Have you been advised to take medication for high blood pressure?
- Have you ever been a smoker?
Key benefits of your high cholesterol travel policy
- Medical emergency helpline – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- Dedicated UK-based customer services team
- Emergency medical and other expenses up to £15M on Super Duper cover (£5M on Super cover)
Consequences of not covering your medical conditions
A medical emergency while abroad can be traumatic for anyone and failing to ensure all of your medical conditions, could also leave you open to paying out for expensive medical treatment and hospital accommodation costs. If you need to be medically repatriated home, the costs for this can run into thousands of pounds.
If you need to cancel your holiday due to your high cholesterol and have not declared your medical condition, you could be liable to pay out for any unused travel and accommodation costs that you are contracted to pay or lose money for costs that you have already paid for.
Peace of mind included
Many standard travel insurance policies exclude cover for pre-existing medical conditions or will decline to offer cover. Here at Free Spirit, we can give you the peace of mind protection you need when you travel – just in case!
Free Spirit was the first scheme of its type dedicated to those being declined cover elsewhere due to their health. We are now one of the UK’s largest specialist travel insurance providers for people with medical conditions and disabilities.
