Consequences Of Not Covering Your Medical Conditions

No one wants to experience a medical emergency while abroad. However, should the unexpected happen and you require emergency medical treatment, it is important to make sure you have declared and covered your DVT or other conditions. If you haven’t, you could be left with some expensive medical bills!

It is also very important to seek medical advice before travelling and obtain confirmation from your doctor that you are fit to travel. Flying with a DVT can cause a number of risks and it is important that your doctor or consultant is happy with your travel plans. Flying at high altitude can cause poor blood circulation however this can be reduced by wearing appropriate clothing.

Top Tips For Travelling With Deep Vein Thrombosis

  • Make sure to drink plenty of water while you’re away and avoid alcohol if you can.
  • Flight stockings or socks are recommended for people suffering with DVT. They apply sufficient pressure to the legs to keep the blood circulating and reducing the risk of swelling, otherwise known as an oedema. They should be worn for the entire flight and for flights of at least 4 hours or more.
  • On the plane, ensure you store luggage overhead so you have room to stretch your legs. Don’t forget to do some anti-DVT exercises too.

How Can I Get A Quote For Deep Vein Thrombosis Travel Insurance?

Some insurance providers don’t cover deep vein thrombosis due to the potential risks of increased claims arising from this condition.

However at Free Spirit we have a wide knowledge of this medical condition and the additional associated medical conditions caused by it. As part of the online quote process we will ask you some questions about your DVT so that you get the cover you need for your medical condition(s):

  • Did you also have any clots in your lungs?
  • Are you still taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication for this condition?
  • How many times have you had a thrombosis (clot)?
  • Do you have a blood disorder which makes your blood more likely to clot?

Customer reviews

″I thought I would never get travel insurance with my schizophrenia. Then I looked on MINDs website and found a company that dealt with these types of conditions. I thought the website was quick and easy to use and asked some quite pertinent questions about my mental health. In the end the insurance only cost £40. I was very pleased and would certainly use them again.″
